The Maldives has been accepted as a member of the Vanilla Islands.
The destination joins Seychelles, Mayotte, Comoros, Reunion, Madagascar and Mauritius in the organisation. The island becomes the seventh member of the grouping and its acceptance was officially announced at the Top Resa trade fair in Paris last week.
Present at the Maldives stand at Top Resa, Fathimath Afra, Deputy Director of Maldives Tourism, had the opportunity to meet with Alain St Ange, President of the Vanilla Islands, to discuss their expectations as a new member.
Minister St Ange said that Maldives had put into consideration listing one of its national events on the Vanilla Island’s calendar of activities. Presently, the Vanilla Islands have recognised the Seychelles’ Carnival international de Victoria, Reunion’s “Journee Metisse” in recognition for the abolition of slavery and Madagascar’s Indian Ocean Tourism Fair as the main events of the Vanilla Islands.
